Renegade Women in Film and TV: Elizabeth Weitzman

Elizabeth Weitzman’s Renegade Women in Film and TV is a stunning illustrated coffee table-worthy book on several women who’ve impacted the entertainment industry over the last two centuries.

Many thanks to author Elizabeth Weitzman for sending me this beautiful book!

The true and eye-opening stories of women who have shaped and been shaped by the entertainment industry unfold within this beautiful, high-quality book. You can expect to learn the fascinating histories of women from the 1800s to present day that were and are impactful to the industry.

My Thoughts

From the cover to every single page, this book is stunning. If that’s not enough, the content is also top notch, y’all. There are so many women in the entertainment industry that are notable, and I do not envy Weitzman for having to choose which women she highlighted. The choices are endless, but the women she did choose are so impactful and have moving, if not downright shocking, stories.

I particularly loved the biographies of the women in the 1800s and early 1900s that I’d never heard of. They fought tooth and nail for the opportunities they got and were still ultimately slighted by the male-dominated industry. Further, it is absolutely clear that Weitzman made a major effort to include women with diverse backgrounds and stories and it is so appreciated. So often, history can be white- (and straight-) washed, but this book covers the histories of women of color and within the LGBTQ+ community.

I absolutely loved learning about the strong women who have impacted the entertainment industry, and who continue to impact it today. The fascinating biographies paired with the beauty on every page create a fantastic experience and a book that I cherish. Put it on your coffee table and ogle at its beauty; flip through the pages and learn something new about your favorite actress or director – I highly recommend this book!
