Lindy West’s The Witches are Coming is a hysterical, fierce collection of essays jam-packed with social commentary ranging from the political state of America to whether Adam Sandler is actually funny.
Please take caution while reading The Witches are Coming if any of the following topics may trigger you:
- Sexual assault
Lindy West is undeniably hilarious and thoughtful, both of which work together to provide us with a really great book. Her insights into this curious time of social and political change are deeply thought-provoking and her quips on all things from Guy Fieri to cat memes relatable, yet ludicrous.
I so appreciated the candor and confidence with which West spoke about the issues plaguing our country, women, and our planet. Her more serious essays served to piss me off, pump me up, and make me think. There’s a very healthy balance of these serious essays with those that are more silly, but even the most ridiculous essay is still rooted in an important message.
I devoured this essay collection and enjoyed every bite. I highly recommend to readers interested in politics, social issues, and pop culture. You’ll laugh, you’ll get pissed, and you’ll think. What more could you ask for?
