Favorite Books of 2019

2019 was the most amazing reading year of my life, far and away. In 2019, I started my book-dedicated Instagram account, @bookmarkedbya; I read over 100 books; I learned so much about myself, the world around me, and the endless ways that a story can be told. I read so many good books, and I’m so excited to share my favorites with you. From short stories to memoirs, I read it all, and I hope that this list will inspire you to pick up a great book in 2020!

If you’ll indulge me – I’ve separated my favorites into two lists. The first is the top ten books I read + that were published in 2019. The second is my favorite book from each month of 2019 – not restricted to new releases. Please enjoy!

In no particular order…

  • The Need, Helen Phillips – fiction / suspense / I don’t even know
  • She Said, Jodi Kantor & Megan Twohey – journalistic nonfiction
  • The Dreamers, Karen Thompson Walker – contemporary fiction

Favorite Books of Each Month

  • February – The Dreamers, Karen Thompson Walker – contemporary fiction
  • June – Mrs. Everything, Jennifer Weiner – historical / women’s fiction
  • September – Unpregnant, Jeni Hendriks & Ted Caplan – young adult
  • October – Good Talk, Mira Jacob – graphic novel / memoir
  • November – She Said, Jodi Kantor & Megan Twohey – invesigative nonfiction

As you can see, there are a few overlapping books in these two stacks – but that just means that they’re so damn good I had to include them twice! I’d love to hear about your favorite books of the year; please share in the comments so we can discuss. You can also find me on Instagram @bookmarkedbya. Now, let’s have a fabulous 2020!
